Sensory Support

I have read, with growing concern and anger, the council’s suggestions for saving on expenditure. It is obvious from the actions being promoted that the council is not concerned with the elderly, disabled or those people who are the most vulnerable.Amongst these proposed cuts is the ‘Sensory Support Unit’ and as a Lady who is registered blind I found the support given with my  rehabilitation helped me to face life without sight as it does for many others. In the proposal this service will disappear and where then will people be able to go for help,  rehabilitation, training for long cane use and the equipment to subsequently enable people with sight loss to  lead  independent lives in or out of the home? It is all very well to let the private sector  step in but as we have seen many times before that is when the most vulnerable people are hit the hardest through failings in the service.

I would suggest that any Council pay rises are frozen for at least 2 years and any person earning more than £50,000 per annum should have a 10% pay cut and those over £75000 a 15% cut.The County Council need to lead by example and cutting their own individual expenditues to a minimum before attacking  attacking vulnerable members of society.
